In a tale reminiscent of a movie plot, over 30 years ago, a Long Island contractor, much like those who might frequent Bournemouth container storage facilities, stumbled upon a remarkable find. For a modest investment of under $100, akin to the cost of a storage unit, he unknowingly purchased a piece of cinematic history.

Inside the container, hidden beneath blankets, was a wheelless, dented white sports car – a Lotus Esprit. This wasn't just any car; it was the famous submarine car from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Roger Moore and Barbara Bach. The car, nicknamed 'Wet Nellie' on set, had cost over $100,000 to build, and was an actual working submarine.

The brothers were astonished to learn the value of their discovery.

Years later, in 2013, this piece of movie history found its way to a London auction. Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, purchased the submarine car for $997,000. Musk, sharing his childhood fascination with the Bond car, planned to retrofit it with a Tesla electric powertrain, aiming to bring its fictional transformation capabilities to life.

Probably not the sort of thing you’d expect to find in any Bournemouth container storage units, but you never can tell.
